Childhood

There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again. ~Elizabeth Lawrence

Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows. ~John Betjeman, Summoned by Bells

I'd give all wealth that years have piled,The slow result of Life's decay,To be once more a little childFor one bright summer day.~Lewis Carroll, "Solitude"

  1. Wonderful. So true. When my tweens want to do something their grown-up siblings are doing, I want so much for them to understand how precious and short their childhood is. You never get that innocence ~ and freedom from care back once it's gone!

  2. The "dark hour of reason" is a curse in many respects. I long to have faith like a child, to stop doubting and questioning, to just lie in the arms of my Lord and say "Abba" and KNOW (like only children can) that He IS without a shadow of a doubt.

    Beautiful post.

  3. Lovely thoughts. Why is childhood always so difficult though? Maybe one day we will know what it is really like to be children. In heaven.

  4. How wonderful. We too are often telling our children "don't try to grow up so fast, enjoy childhood while you can."
